This century is the time of the biologist as they are and will continue to be at the forefront of the most challenging and important intellectual problems facing humankind.

Biologists will continue to reveal the relationships between genes and disease and will use their creativity and analytical skills to find cures and preventive measures. They will be responsible for solving the environmental problems that are thrown up by our ever-increasing population and our over-use of the World’s finite resources. It is vital that the educated people of tomorrow understand the importance of biological sciences in order to inform policy and to influence the decisions made by those in positions of responsibility.

Whether they decide to study Biology to GCSE or through to A level, in the Biology Department we are determined that all of our students will come to recognise the importance of Biology in a modern world and learn to appreciate the wonder of the natural world.
