Japanese is taught in all year groups at the Senior School. Pupils entering Year 9 may choose to start learning as a beginners, opting in Year 10 to continue with the language to GCSE.

Japanese at AS and A2 levels is taught in small classes allowing students plenty of individual attention. Results at AS/A level for non-native speaker candidates for 2009 and 2010 have been 100% ‘A’ or ‘B’.

The school offers a unique language experience at its partner-school in Kobe, Japan where pupils have the opportunity to spend time with a Japanese family, attending the school and visiting the many famous sights of both ancient and modern Japan.

Pupils also participate in the Nihongo Cup, a national Japanese speaking competition held at the Japanese Embassy in London, which pupils from Wycliffe have won each year for the last 4 years.

There is also an emphasis on cultural learning through multi-media such as: literature, magazines, film, cinema, music and use of ICT in the target-language.
