July 2004 - OWS Chapel Fund
Thanks to the generosity of so many we have been able to achieve the objectives of the Fund.
The Choir Gowns were first used on OW Day 2003 and have since been used for Chapel Services on many occasions.
We hope to order new Hymn Books later this year now the planning of contents has been completed in consultation with the Chaplain and Director of Music.
We have now decided to close this Fund and in doing so thank all who have made our visions a reality.
In addition a number of OWs have ordered Chapel Chairs which will shortly be delivered and more can be purchased should any OWs wish to do so.
June 2004 - Chapel Watercolour
www.happiest-days.co.uk is a new venture from two OWs, Steve Jones (J SH 1984-1992) and Luke Coleman (SH 1990-1992). From their gallery on the High Street in Stroud, above Steve's Ecotopia shop, they are gradually building a selection of paintings of local schools, with the aim of providing prints to pupils, parents and former pupils and presenting a proportion of the sales to the latest school project - in the case of Wycliffe, The Berryfield Project. Here you can see the watercolour commissioned of The Chapel, by Alex Jawdokimov, bought by the OW Society and presented to the school. Prints are available at £50 unframed, £90 framed from the website or contact luke@littleletters.com
May 2004 - OW Day
Despite the inclement weather, OW Day on Saturday 8th May attracted a record turnout of OWs and Friends of Wycliffe.
Following the opening of the new Cricket Pavilion by Tom Richardson, Chief Executive of Gloucestershire County Cricket Club, we were all entertained to lunch in Wycliffe Hall.
Unfortunately the traditional cricket match had to be called off after only a couple of hours play due to the rain and later the new ‘state of the art’ Squash Court was officially opened and spectators witnessed a series of high class exhibition matches.
The day finished on a high note when Phil Pritchard, on behalf of the OWS, presented an engraved bench to Phil Hale, Housemaster of Haywardsfield, to mark the House’s 120 year Anniversary.
The Hog Roast held during the evening proved so popular that late arrivals were disappointed to find all the food had gone! |
