We lay the foundation

stones to learning

Wycliffe’s nursery now takes children from two to four + years and follows the Foundation Stage Early Learning Goals in learning through play.

Each term a new topic is covered through art, play, music, discussion, exploration and child led activities. Topics include ‘Colour’, ‘Out and about’, ‘My favourite rhymes’, ‘All about me’, ‘At the seaside’. Children have two planned PE sessions per week and one dance session with a dance teacher.

In the Lower Nursery we lay the foundation stones to learning. Intermixing free play with planned activities. Each child is encouraged to explore and question at their own individual level. We also promote social skills, learning how to share and other valuable life skills as preparation to the next stage of education.

In the Upper Nursery, children are introduced to number concepts, phonics, shapes, sequencing and pre-reading skills.

The Upper Nursery has strong links with the Reception class. The Reception teacher helps with Nursery assembly, takes the pre-school group for a session each week during the summer term and helps with the Nursery music.

All our nursery children who stay for school lunch choose from a selection of nutritious cooked meals. Sharing mealtimes with their friends and teachers helps to build essential social skills for the future. Wycliffe provides the perfect atmosphere for pre-school children to flourish and grow.
