Wycliffe Prep Crowned South West Schools' Champions

Wycliffe Prep Crowned South West Schools' Champions

This was the first time Wycliffe Preparatory School had entered this prestigious tournament and as the squad set off on what would be the 150 mile trip to Plymouth College Prep School, they did so with a great deal of excitement and enthusiasm for the challenge ahead.

The team arrived at Plymouth at mid day and it was not long before the first group match against St. Michael’s began. This turned out to be nerve-wracking but successful start. The next match was against Millfield; Wycliffe afforded them too much respect in the first half and, as a result, ran out of time to win the match, placing the team second in the group. As a result, Wycliffe was drawn in the quarter-finals against another strong team, Truro Prep, who were top of their group.

With one school withdrawing, Wycliffe were placed in a group of three schools and we agreed to play a match against another team in a similar position from Group D, this enabling our team to play a whole match. Wycliffe played St.John’s, Sidmouth and won 12-7.

In the match against Truro, Wycliffe dominated the opposition, giving the team another win and gaining a place in the semi-finals against Kelly College Prep School. Once again a super match between two good teams but Wycliffe’s physical superiority saw victory once again.

In the other semi, Blundell’s, who were last year’s winners, beat Millfield to gain their place in the final alongside Wycliffe. This was a tough match but Wycliffe once again proved their mettle to become the South West champions. The boys arrived back at Wycliffe tired but very excited and proud of their achievement.
