Rugby is the major boys' sport

in the Autumn Term

Rugby is played by all boys in Years 9, 10 and 11 during the Autumn Term. A and B teams are run in each year group and the Sixth Form have a 1st and 2nd XV. All teams play regular fixtures on a competitive and challenging local circuit.

The College provides quality coaching throughout the age groups, and further playing opportunities are provided in district competitions and the National Daily Mail knock out cup for U15 and U18. The U16 team are the current holders of the District competition. Players regularly play for the District and County teams at all the different representative age groups.

Tours are seen as a valuable and enriching experience and are used to further develop teams and individuals. The 1st XV squad toured South Africa in 2008, while the U16 team visited Germany in 2009. The 1st XV squad are currently planning to Tour Canada in 2011.

In the Spring Term, all year groups have the opportunity to play Rugby 7’s, predominantly as a co-curricular activity. Teams are entered into local tournaments, the County 7’s and the National Rosslyn Park Tournament. Wycliffe has also been hosting its own successful U16 and U18 tournaments for the past 25 years or more.
