My Fair Lady

This year's school production was "My Fair Lady", the musical derived from Bernard Shaw's classic tale 'Pygmalion'.  A cast of over 60 pupils from all year groups and a team of staff from a variety of departments produced a lavish creation retelling the story of Professor Higgins and Eliza Dolittle.

Fergus Davies gave a sensitive and believable performance as the Professor and the role of Eliza was shared by Malaika Jacka-Slater and Emma Grier.  Humour was added by the portrayal of bumbling Colonel Pickering (Jamie Commons) and Doolittle, Eliza's salt of the earth father (Callum Wood).

The set was specially built by Jonathan Hardaker (Head of Economics) and each scene had been painted by Bob Royston (Head of Art) adding both colour and a touch of Raoul Dufy.  The cameo of Mrs Burnet Ward as the Queen of Transylvania offered an ironic comparison to the character's own headmistresses who she had been 'mortally afraid of' due to the way that she spoke to people!
