"Wycliffe draws the best from every pupil"
This was the collective judgement of the team of Independent Schools Council (ISC) inspectors who visited Wycliffe in February 2004.
It is especially pleasing to note that the ISC inspectors confirmed what we have always known, namely that “the Wycliffe ethos offers individual development to each pupil in the academic, personal and extra-curricular spheres of their lives”. They also noted that “pupils are valued for their individuality as well as challenged to be original in their thinking and learning styles”.
In the academic sphere they found that Wycliffe’s provision “enables all pupils to gain good academic achievements in relation to their abilities”, adding that at GCSE level results have “been well above those for all maintained schools”, and at A-level “above those for all entries". Both “can be attributed to good teaching and the commitment and hard work of the pupils”.
In the sphere of pupils’ personal development they noted that “the college provides excellent opportunities for the pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development”. Indeed, this was judged to be one of Wycliffe’s many strengths.
