Wycliffe’s curriculum was described as “very good”, “carefully and effectively planned”, possessing “a good deal of flexibility in its organisation in order to provide courses for as many pupils as possible”, so that the “wide and varied needs of the learners at the school” can be met. It is also “enriched by an impressive range of activities”, where “high rates of pupil participation are a notable feature”.
The inspectors also commented most positively on the generous provision and quality of resources for learning at Wycliffe, noting that “major developments such as the ALC, sports complex, Wycliffe Hall and boarding houses” are “creating a more flexible and individualised learning environment”. The provison of ICT resources was similarly described as “extensive, of very good quality and … a central feature” of teaching and learning at the college. Whilst looking ahead to the completion of the ALC later this year, they said that all subject departments “should have ‘state of the art’ facilities and a delightful learning environment”.
Reviewing “the significant developments at the college in recent years” and “the excellent teaching and learning initiatives” that have been pursued, the inspectors found that, “because of their pace” these initiatives “have not become embedded in all classroom practice”. This finding identifies what we should seek to do better, and strategies for achieving this are already in place and being implemented throughout the college.
