The Drama Department at Wycliffe has enjoyed many years of exciting and creative endeavour. There is a history of promoting new writing for young people, working with published writers such as Aidan Chambers, Sebastian Baczkiewicz and Toby Smith.
The Youth Theatre has performed at the Cheltenham Festival of Literature, Edinburgh Fringe Festival and in the Czech Republic with a new version of the Passion Play written by Andrew Shakeshaft.
There are lessons throughout the key stages and rehearsals for whole school plays and house drama competitions.
All students experience drama at KS3, with one lesson a week, where we seek to empower pupils to examine issues, analyse information, gain empathy and develop subject specific skills.
GCSE drama is an option at KS4. The subject seeks to foster creativity, personal growth, self-confidence, communication, knowledge and analytical skills through the application of the imagination. We seek to promote pupils involvement in and enjoyment of drama as performers, devisers, directors and designers.
The Department has links with local professional theatre companies and students have the opportunity to work with leading practitioners and to participate in live theatre as informed audience members.
