Robin (OW – Springfield 1969-1974) became a Trustee of the Wycliffe Council in early 2008 and Chairman of Trustees and member of the Wycliffe College Foundation. Wycliffe runs through his family; he is a second generation Wycliffian and his youngest son Tristan (OW) was the 7th Bacon at Wycliffe.
Robin joined the Army in 1978. His early military background during the Cold War was primarily in operational logistics. After the first Gulf War, he commanded a Hong Kong Chinese logistic unit. In 1995 he deployed to war-torn Angola with the United Nations, then in 1996 took command of 3 Close Support Regiment RLC, with which he deployed to Bosnia as part of the NATO stabilisation force in 1997. Prior to leaving the Army in 2010, he held a number of senior MOD appointments, including being the MOD’s Service Personnel Strategy Director and adviser to a succession of Ministers. He was awarded the Queen’s Commendation for Valuable Service.
In 2010, Robin was appointed as the Chief Operating Officer/Chief of Staff of ABF The Soldiers’ Charity based in London. In addition to his primary role of overseeing the day-to-day running of the Charity’s multi-faceted business, he is much in demand as a media spokesman and is the Chairman of the British Military Tournament, an annual event not dissimilar to the former Royal Tournament.
He has considerable experience in business process outsourcing, corporate governance, corporate sponsorship, HR and change management. Robin is a graduate of the Army Staff College, a Chartered Fellow of the CIPD and a Fellow of the CMI. He has an MBA and a Certificate in Company Direction from the Institute of Directors. In his spare time he is a Trustee of the Hong Kong Ex-Servicemen’s Association and is also the Non-Executive Chairman of a social enterprise community interest company.
