Teaching and learning is seen as a team effort, utilising the resources of all staff, children and parents and/or carers.
Staff work towards the aims of the Nursery by creating a stimulating, bright indoor and outdoor environment which will interest the children and encourage them to learn.
The curriculum is delivered through a mixture of adult-planned and
child-initiated activities, using resources carefully chosen to be appropriate for the age and stage of development of each child.
In the Lower Nursery we focus strongly on the three prime areas, which are the basis for successful learning in the other four specific areas. The three prime areas reflect the key skills and capacities all children need to develop and lean effectively as outlined in the Early Years Foundation Stage by encouraging participation in free play, adult-led or child-initiated activities and by sensitive scaffolding by staff.
In Upper Nursery Adult-led activities are planned and topics introduced to ensure that all seven areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum are fully covered during the year. These provide opportunities, along with their own lines of enquiry, for the children to explore ideas and concepts, expand their experiences and develop their skills through stimulating, challenging and fun activities.
At Wycliffe Nursery we understand the importance of being outdoors and the learning opportunities this provides and the children have the opportunity to explore our varied outdoor areas. Activities are planned following individual children’s interests and developmental levels to maximise learning potential in addition to child-led exploration.
Activities enjoyed both indoors and outdoors include nature walks, role play, sand and water play, creative activities, stories, singing and music.
Both group and individual one-to-one investigations takes place, with the child’s key person supporting his or her learning journey
