How do children settle into Nursery

When you choose to send your child to Wycliffe Nursery, you will be invited to attend ‘Stay and Play’ sessions in the term prior to your child starting. Parents and/or carers have the opportunity to meet their child’s key person at this time. The role of the key person is to work with a small number of children, giving them the reassurance to feel safe and cared for. The child’s key person will talk to parents and/or carers to make sure the needs of their child are being met appropriately, and will share records of development and progress with parents and/or carers and, with parental permission, other professionals as necessary.

Children are then invited to attend a short settling in session at the end of the term prior to them starting at Nursery

For entry into our Nursery, we would invite you to visit our Prep School and to meet with our Headmaster, Mr Palmer, and Nursery Manager, Mrs Marsh. After your visit, we will send out an offer of a place for your child to join us at any time throughout the academic year. Before a September start date, your child would be welcome to join us for our ‘Reception-Ready’ days during the summer term to familiarise themselves with Wycliffe before they joined us in September. For entry at any other time during the academic year, your child would be invited to join us for a taster day, where they would spend the day in lessons and activities with our current Reception Class to experience life at Wycliffe.

For entry into Year 1 and Year 2, we would invite pupils to join us for a taster day, where they would spend the day in lessons and activities with their current peer group, to experience life at Wycliffe. Children can have as many taster days as they would like in order to feel comfortable with a new environment, as well as their new classmates and teachers. During this taster day your child will sit a short reading test, which benchmarks their reading level against our current Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 classes. Once your child has attended a taster day, and we are in receipt of their most recent school report, we are then able to formally offer them a place to join their relevant year group at any time during the academic year.
