Football is a hugely popular sport at Wycliffe in the Spring Term, and is very much an inclusive sport, with every boy from Year 3 – Year 8 representing the School in fixtures with up to thirteen teams across the different year groups. Whilst inclusive in its approach, the elite performer is also catered for, with the top players being put forward to the ISFA South-west trials. This has resulted in numerous players representing the South-west, and two boys going on to be selected for the ISFA U13 England Squad.
Even though the football season doesn’t start until January, the 1st XI enter the IAPS U13 7 a-side South-west Tournament in the Autumn Term. During the Spring Term, there is a comprehensive fixture list against local Independent Prep Schools, which also includes the U11 South-west ISFA tournament. Wycliffe also plays host to their own annual U11 and U13 6 a-side competitions, which are now in their 39th year of competition.
Football tour has been a mainstay in the season for the 1st XI, with the 2016 tour comprising of a trip to St George’s Park with a tour around followed by training from FA Coaches, a hydrotherapy recovery session, an overnight stay, and fixtures against other schools before watching Leicester beat Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
Wycliffe is very fortunate with the available facilities as the fields accommodate eight pitches of varying size for the different age groups, and should the weather fall foul, we have an astro available for use at the Prep School and a newly refurbished astro at the Senior School. We also have close links with a local indoor 4G pitch facility.
