Aims for Teaching and Learning
The aim within the Nursery is that all children will develop to their full potential in all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum.
Purpose and Aims of the Early Years Foundation Stage
‘Every child deserves the best possible start in life and support to fulfil their potential. Children develop quickly in the early years and a child’s experience between birth and five have a major impact on their future life chances. A secure, safe and happy childhood is important in its own right.
Good parenting and high quality early learning together provide the foundation children need to make the most of their abilities and talents as they grow up.’
DFE (2014), ‘Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage’. Setting the standards for learning, development and care for children from birth to five.
The principles are delivered through seven areas of learning and development.
Three areas are particularly crucial for igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, for building their capacity to learn, form friendships and thrive. These three are known as the prime areas:
Personal, social and emotional development
Communication and language
Children are also supported in four specific areas, through which the prime areas are strengthened and applied. The specific areas are:
Understanding the world
Expressive arts and design
