The Nova Academies are the next step up the pathway from County Academies and replace Regional and Regional Performance Academies. Severn Stars Nova Academies run from seven sites throughout the region.
The U17 NPL Severn Stars team for 2018-19 Season will be selected from players within the Nova Academies.
The Wycliffe Nova Academy hosts two sessions a week. A Netball skills and game focus is led by renowned Coach Gilly Salter, last season’s u17 Severn Stars coach and level 2 assistant Jen Usher and a strength and conditioning session led by Ben Gannon which takes place in the school’s fitness suite. Additional one to one and small group sessions are scheduled to our netball scholars as part of the schools WASP programme which provides support and guidance through the netball development. In the Autumn term, the school teams train in preparation for the County tournaments and ISNC competitions. Supported by the Nova coaches, the main Schools Netball programme is lead by Head of Girls Games Sally Dudley and Netball specialist Joanne Wright. Netball is the major game in the Spring term and offers a busy and competitive fixture card for the Schools 12 teams.
Wycliffe currently has 5 talented netball players involved in the Nova Academy. They get access to the NOVA staff throughout the week and are supported with their training and goals set which can be monitored and adjusted. The added benefit of being onsite means they are able to commit to the netball programme alongside the busy demands of a boarding School, both academic and extra curricular.
As part of Wycliffe College hosting the Severn Stars Nova we also sponsor a player. Our sponsored player Ella Powell-Davies is the Severn Stars linked player who also attends Nova sessions and provides masterclasses to the Schools teams.
