Year 9 attend Stroud Ambitions Fair where local companies & learning providers showcase a wide breadth of careers and pupils get actively involved in careers workshops. This supports Life Skills classroom work around ‘Getting to Know Yourself’ & ‘Starting Your Personal Careers Journey’. Wycliffe’s Enterprise and Options Day consists of a fun business competition in the morning (with local Business leaders coming in to support) and a GCSE Subject Option Fair in the afternoon. The winning team from the Enterprise competition visit GCHQ in the summer term and pitch their business idea, alongside other local schools, to a panel of judges. Further Life Skills work introduces students to ‘Kudos’ – an online careers-matching & research programme and ‘cv-plus’ where they can begin, & upload material for, their digital cv.
The focus for Year 10 in Life Skills lesson work is on employability skills. A whole year group trip to Birmingham University acquaints students with university life. Later in the Year, the COA Preview & Profile Programme is completed: an interests questionnaire and careers-focused aptitude tests which match students to suitable careers & highlights the ‘A’ level subjects required to read a degree in these career areas.
Year 11 have one-to-one careers interviews with our Careers Manager, based on their COA reports. Life Skills lessons focus on job application & interview technique leading to our Mock Interview day where pupils are interviewed by local business leaders who provide individual verbal and written feedback.
