One of the reasons that Markus chose to come to Wycliffe was because he wanted to learn Japanese. He joined in the Development Year (a one-year GCSE course with a focus on English language skills to prepare pupils for the following two-year A Level courses), before progressing to the Sixth Form, and it was in these 12 months that he took his GCSE in Japanese and got a Grade A. Now he is studying A levels in Chemistry, Biology and Maths, and wants to read Dentistry in the UK or Germany. He says, “I really loved Maths, but I didn’t feel I was that good at it. My teachers were amazing – helping me and giving lots of extra support so that now my Maths is really good! I think that helped loads with building my confidence as well.” One of the things that Markus remembers about his time at Wycliffe is how lively and busy it was. He commented, “There was never enough time to do all the things here. And one of the reasons my family and I chose Wycliffe was because the Fencing was so good and I was able to focus on improving my skills.
