Nick Gregory

Mr Nick Gregory Head from 2015. Nick Gregory became the tenth Head in the College’s 130+ year history in September 2015. Prior to that he had been Deputy Head (Pastoral) for seven years at Mill Hill School in north London. After a banking career with Barclays throughout the 1990s (“branches and call centres”, he tells us, teaching him as much about team dynamics and leadership as it did about banking per se), Nick made a career change into education in 2000 starting as a French and Spanish teacher at Barnard Castle and then Merchant Taylors’ Northwood and, after that, running a senior boys’ boarding house as a Housemaster at Old Swinford Hospital. His experiences both as a linguist (he has lived and worked in Madrid and Buenos Aires), and also in boarding, prepare him very well indeed for the challenges of leading Wycliffe forward, given the key roles played by our boarding community and by our international contingent of pupils. In addition to his Modern Languages degree from the University of Nottingham, he qualified as an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Banking in 1995 and, more recently, earned an M. Ed. in Educational Leadership in 2014 from the University of Buckingham. He lives in the Head’s House on site built originally for George Loosley (the College’s 3rd Headmaster) with his wife Helen and their three sons: Harry, a current Wycliffian, Ben and Sam, who attends the Prep School. He was evidently a keen sportsman (Rugby and Cricket) in his younger days and coaching those sports formed a central element of his teaching CV up until arriving in Stonehouse. He tries to spend as much spare time as he is able with his family, especially when time allows for them to escape to their home in south-western Spain near Jerez.
