July 27, 2021

OW Jeffrey Crook (J SH 1956 – 1966) is pictured here on the seafront of Hythe marina with the Iona cruise liner in the background, on the right hand side. The Iona is significant as the first British cruise liner to use liquefied natural gas (LNG) as fuel. It is berthed at the Southampton Ocean terminal on 6 July 2021 in the picture. The press release that supports his book, South Coast Shenanigans, asks how the ship will be refuelled. While the picture was being taken he learned (part) of the answer.

Jeff has written a number of fiction crime and mystery novels, his latest book South Coast Shenanigans published on 28th July 2021 can be purchased here at Waterstones: https://www.waterstones.com/book/south-coast-shenanigans/jeff-crook/9781913913090

Synopsis

When the somewhat disreputable Martin Beckwith builds a midget submarine that uses a novel form of propulsion, he has little idea that an unlikely gang of buccaneers plans to commandeer his vessel for their own nefarious purposes. The daring heist is masterminded by a crafty naval officer called the ‘Admiral’ from his garden in a leafy Hampshire village and draws together a disparate band of crewmates which includes a feisty female naval officer, a young executive, an attractive pub landlady. In this light-hearted tale, the Admiral and his unlikely buccaneers are pitched against the inventor, who will stop at nothing to get his submarine back in some South Coast Shenanigans.
