Following their success at the South West Regional Championships, our Senior Air Pistol team took part in the National Finals at the Stoke Mandeville stadium on Wednesday 17th January. The event is in its third year and attracted shooters from the whole of the UK. Participants were selected through regional qualifying events and our Senior team qualified by winning their Senior team category last October.

The trio of Anson Tsang, Emma Livingstone and Angela Ozakpolor travelled to Stoke Mandeville with no real expectations. To qualify was a great achievement in itself, so any result here would be a massive bonus.

Each competitor would have 20 shots at an electronic target at 10 metres. Their combined total out of a possible 600 would then rank them for the medal positions.  Anson shot a creditable 145 with Emma scoring 134. Angela, with very little practice time under her belt shot 103 to give Wycliffe 382.  We were agonisingly close to a bronze medal with the third place team scoring 401. To get a bronze in our first major National Final would have been a tremendous achievement, but it was not to be.

Our teams will be back in numbers in October when we try once again to put Wycliffe shooters in the frame for National titles!

Shaun Garley, Head of Shooting
