Ben Simmonds (Year 10), fences his way to Glory in 2018

January started well with Ben winning Gold in the Gloucestershire Epee under 16 championships. The following weekend he once again qualified for the British Youth Championships, which take place at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield on the 4th May.

His qualification was secured by taking Gold in the under 16 foil event at the Southern Region qualifiers. This event was held at Wellington College, Crowthorne. His performance was outstanding in both the semi-final and final, totally dominating the matches and beating 2 highly ranked GB fencers neither of whom he had beaten before.

Ben’s focus will now be to hold on to this form, as on Saturday 24th March he will represent England in the under 15 foil event at Wroclaw, Poland. He was delighted to have been selected for the England Squad, a target that he has been working on for the past 2 years.

Ever determined Ben has already set his sights for 2018/2019, his next target is to represent GB as an under 17 Cadet!
