Anthony G. Smythe

W 1947-1951

We were saddened to hear of the death of Tony Smythe who passed away, after a long illness, in February, aged 89. Our thoughts and best wishes go to his family and all those who knew him well.

Tony’s brother and OW Richard Smythe (W 1950-1955) writes:

He was well known in the mountaineering world for his articles and books, especially his biography of our Dad, Everest climber, Frank Smythe. He was eight years in the RAF as a pilot after leaving school and subsequently went on expeditions of his own to Alaska and South America. He became a lecturer, married, had two children, and set up a pottery business in Oxfordshire before moving to the Lake District.

If you would like to have your memories of Tony posted on this webpage, please feel free to email them to TWS@wycliffe.co.uk
