Dr David Gazard

Hon. OW & Staff Member 1981 - 2003

2022 saw the sad death of Dr David Gazard.

David retired as Head of Chemistry at Wycliffe College in 1998 but continued working part-time as Examinations Officer until he retired in 2003. During the course of David’s twenty-two years of service to the College, he greatly enhanced the Chemistry Department, was instrumental in introducing the Diploma of Achievement (precursor to the Life-skills programme) and was also among the first to introduce boys hockey to Wycliffe. He will also be remembered for his inspiring and entertaining addresses given in Chapel each term, a skill which he acquired through years of work as an Elder at his church at Rodborough.

If you would like to have your memories of David posted on this webpage, please feel free to email them to TWS@wycliffe.co.uk

Memories and thoughts regarding David:

I was so fond of David – there was no one more fun to join at the lunch table or to try and solve the Times crossword with (along with Guy Roberts!).

David was a very valued colleague with his chemistry department on the same floor as my IT department in the science building.  His students much appreciated his expertise and wide knowledge of his subject, that made him an extremely effective teacher. For many years he was actively involved with the running of the  Kings Stanley Singers who used to rehearse and perform in the Baptist Chapel in Middleyard. He was an enthusiastic promoter of the Gloucestershire poets including Ivor Gurney and the Dymock Poets. An interesting and entertaining conversationalist who was greatly liked. It is sad to learn of his passing.
