Word has reached us of the sad news that Kate Thompson passed away on 28th October 2023. She was aged 83. Our thoughts and best wishes go to her family and those who knew her well.
Kate was the widow of Michael Thompson (Head of Wycliffe College Junior School 1988-1993).
The funeral will take place at 1pm on Tuesday 21st November, St Paul’s Church, Shurdington GL51 4TF. This will be followed by a reception in the village community centre afterwards.

Kate Thompson’s energy and commitment as Headmaster’s wife was legendary. Her robust enthusiasm was the perfect foil for her husband, Michael, whose wise and reflective leadership was so important to the success of Wycliffe College Junior School and all at Ryeford. Lesley and I will never forget their kindness and warm hospitality, not least on Christmas mornings. Above all Kate was cheerfully and ceaselessly in support of girls at a critical time following the introduction of co-education. Her masterful orchestration of match teas and school parties did much to raise spirits and she was always there to give encouragement and lift morale when needed. Later on she played a similar role in support of Michael’s work as Vicar of Shurdington. In her time as a widow she was always positive and much valued by a steady stream of friends from the schools in which she and Michael had given so many years of their lives. She will be much missed.
