Although the 2020/2021 academic year started off as a quiet one for Wycliffe College Boat Club when it came to races and events it didn’t stop the athletes putting in lots of hard work on the water and in the gym, getting ready for the regatta season to begin.

Soon enough the regatta season began with National Schools Regatta at Dorney Lake which proved to be a great weekend of racing giving Wycliffe some promising results for the season ahead. The Championship Girls A Quad finished in 4th place and missed out on a medal by just 1 second.

Next up was Metropolitan Regatta with crews some all over the country coming to compete at this multilane event. The first day ended well for Wycliffe with a 2nd place finish for the Women’s Junior 18 ‘A’ Quad and 6th place for the Women’s Junior ‘B’ Quad. Racing on Sunday produced more fantastic results with the Girls ‘A’ and ‘B’ Quads finishing 3rd and 6th respectively and the Junior 18 Boys Quad finishing 4th in their final.

A few weeks later it was back to Dorney Lake, this time for Marlow Regatta. With a few races now under their belts the Wycliffe athletes were keen to keep proving themselves with more great results. The Junior 18 Boys finished 21st in their category and the two Junior 18 Girls Quads placing 5th and 11th out of 24.

The last race of the term was Henley Women’s Regatta, a first for all the girls that competed. Wycliffe entered two quads and a single sculler, all of which qualified in the time trial to race in the knock out stages. Both quads finished in the top 16 with the single sculler making it to the quarter final stages.

Although the summer term is over the regatta season continues for Wycliffe with crews heading off to the British Junior Championships in late July followed by Henley Royal Regatta in August.
