Netball is the major game for Girls in Years 9, 10 & 11 in the Spring Term. A, B & C teams run in each age group and the Sixth Form currently have a 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th VII. All teams have a busy and competitive fixture calendar.
Teams compete in the South Cotswold District tournaments, Gloucestershire County Schools competitions as part of the National Schools programme, the Smile ISNC and invitational tournaments. Both the U16 and U14s squads were the Gloucestershire Schools finalists in 2015 and went onto represent the County at the South West finals in 2016. For a small school we compete to a consistently high standard, often progressing to the knock out stages in County competitions.
Our Talented Athletes Programme (WASP) runs Netball sessions during the Autumn and Spring Term to offer pre-season, in-season, skill development and competitive play to all age groups.
Netball tours are organised and run separately or with hockey. In March 2016 the U14 & U15 A & B squads travelled to the JCA centre in Shropshire. The U15A team finished Champions whilst the other two teams made the semi-finals. The senior Hockey and Netball squads travelled to Sri Lanka in Easter 2017 for a 10 day tour. Previous touring destinations have included Edinburgh, Barbados, Malta, Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Wycliffe’s double Sports Hall hosts one of England’s Netball Pathway Centres which many of Wycliffe’s netballers attend in both the Senior and Prep School. A number of pupils have been selected for the Satellite, County and Regional performance centres. One current pupil plays in the Severn Stars U17/19 training squad, whose sessions are held at Wycliffe every Tuesday evening.
