We welcome children from the age of 3-7 into our Pre-Prep School, giving them a head start on their educational journey. Our Nursery Class and Reception Class provides the perfect environment for children to thrive and sets the foundations of learning before pupils move on up to Year 1 and Year 2.  All our class sizes are small meaning each and every child gets the individualised attention they deserve.

“I believe in childhood. I believe in fun, being outdoors and active as much as possible, getting messy, exploring and holding on to that wonderful sense of curiosity into the early teenage years. And that is why I chose to work here,” Mrs Grant explains.

“Wycliffe offers a robust academic offering which challenges individuals and encourages enquiry and a desire to learn. At the same time, young people need a strong emotional awareness and resilience which underpins their knowledge and understanding of themselves.

With small classes and a high pupil to teacher ratio, Wycliffe gives highly personalised attention to the learning of each child. Learning beyond the classroom is also core to a child’s development. The extra curricular provision at Wycliffe is wide-reaching and all-encompassing – with something for every child. Sport and the Arts play a major role in life at the school.

My vision for the school is clear – strong academics, a range of opportunities to challenge and inspire all children and a personalised pastoral care system to support all in our community,” says Mrs Grant. “I plan to continue the strong sense of the individual and the pioneering spirit which enables us to write our own story, hopefully a varied, adventurous and satisfying one.”

Best in Class Early Years Provision and Infant School Education

In the key development years from pre-school to Year 2, we offer the best in care and educational provision with first-class facilities and small classes taught by specialist Early Years teachers. Music, Art, PE and daily outdoor learning are encouraged come rain or shine. While Forest School is included for all as part of the curriculum as is swimming (for pre-Reception year children onwards). Children learn and play on a broad range of subjects to ensure they develop a well-rounded educational foundation, and they continue with many of these subjects as they transition to the Prep School in Year 3.

The Ensuring a Smooth Transition from Nursery to Reception

Nursery Class is in the same building as the Reception Class – with the Early Years Foundation Stage Lead overseeing both groups. When children leave The Nursery Class to start Reception, the transition is completely natural and worry-free – they know the teachers, their teaching and social areas and have friends in the Reception Class already. In Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 we set down the foundations for education whilst developing inquisitive and creative thinkers in our pupils.

How to choose a pre-prep school?

A Pre-Prep school starts children on their educational journey between the age of 3 and 7. There are a number of factors you must consider when choosing the best school for your child. Your criteria or range of options may include location, fit for your child, curriculum, facilities and whether the school offers wraparound care. And, if you have other children, where they attend school may also be a consideration.

What activities do children take part in at pre-prep school?

Many Pre-Prep schools combine core curriculum subjects with play-led activities. Wycliffe offer a forest school that gives children the opportunity to try new things, develop an appreciation for the environment and by making their own decisions gain a greater independence. Outdoor forest school activities include using tools and learning skills such as vegetable peelers and saws (under supervision) rope work and nature studies. Children are supported to develop a respect for the natural environment around them. Your child also may participate in activities such as music lessons, drama, art, languages and PE. This blend of outdoor and indoor learning ensures children receive a well-rounded education at this important age.
