The Wycliffe Basketball programme continues to grow and develop into a pathway where students now begin training in the Prep school, learning the fundamentals of the sport in an exciting and fun environment. The Prep training is preparing pupils for junior and senior basketball where training sessions are built around individual skill development and team game play. The Prep School trains weekly. Years 5 and 6 compete in house, while Years 7 and 8 committed players represent the school in tournaments.
“I have been coaching young players across the South-West and continue to develop basketball to inspire the young players in the area.” Tony Wilburn
Senior School pupils receive weekly training sessions. Small group and individual sessions ensure players improve and develop specific skills. Whereas timetabled games sessions develop technical and competitive game strategy. Experienced players have the opportunity to compete in highly competitive fixture card on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons throughout the season.
Players have access to a VEO camera. Recordings from training sessions and fixtures are shared by the coach, with specific clips breaking down and highlighting areas for individual and team improvements.
Touring is an important aspect of continuing not only the growth of basketball at Wycliffe but also player personal growth.
