Hockey is the main Girls’ Sport in the Autumn Term. All girls in Years 9, 10 and 11 participate in Hockey during their three games afternoons each week. Sixth Formers are encouraged to represent Wycliffe in either the 1st or 2nd XI. One to one coaching and smaller groups sessions are available to all. Video analysis is utilised to further support our athlete’s development and progression.
During the Spring and Summer Term the Hockey Wycliffe’s Talented Athletes programme (WASP) sessions run to provide support, further core skills and 3D skill development for individuals who wish to continue to make progress. This programme also challenges and supports those that have progressed within the England Hockey pathway through their selection from JDC to JAC and into the Regional Performance Centres.
In addition to a full fixture list in the Autumn Term, all teams throughout the age ranges compete in the Gloucestershire Schools County round of the National Schools competition. The U16s are currently County Champions and progressed into the West Regional finals. The U18 and U15s enter the SMILE ISHC and enjoy cup runs against larger opposition.
Indoor Hockey is a target sport for development with squads entered for the county U16 and U18 age groups. The double sports hall facility with indoor hockey markings and equipment provides the access for pupils to train and perform. They are able to transfer from outdoor to indoor hockey.
Hockey players have the opportunity to tour and experience alternative hockey competition both nationally and internationally. The last touring destination was to Sri Lanka in Easter 2017, with a 2019 tour in the planning stages.
