At Wycliffe Prep School, reading is more than a subject; it’s a passion that underpins everything we do. Each pupil is encouraged to develop a lifelong love of books, stories, and ideas, and our Prep Library provides a welcoming, inspiring space for this to flourish.
The library is open at break and lunch times, offering a calm and creative space for pupils to read, research, or simply unwind with a book, in addition to timetabled library lessons each week. It’s also an important resource for lessons across the curriculum, supporting research projects and encouraging critical thinking skills.

Reading for pleasure in childhood has been linked to better cognitive performance and mental wellbeing in adolescence, and is the cornerstone of our ethos. Every pupil has a personal reading book on the go at all times, ensuring that a good story is always close at hand. Wycliffe Pupils are encouraged to read widely and share recommendations with their peers. Our programme of visiting authors, book clubs, competitions and celebrations throughout the year keeps reading interesting and relevant for even the most reluctant readers.
The Prep Library is stocked with carefully chosen titles that reflect the interests, needs, and reading levels of our pupils. Our diverse collection is constantly updated and includes not only classic and contemporary fiction but also graphic novels, magazines, and up-to-date non-fiction books — ensuring there’s something to engage every type of reader. Our Librarians, Mrs Langlands and Mrs Parry, are fantastic at recommending books to pupils and always ensure that the whole series of books is on the shelves – no one wants to end on a cliff hanger!
Pupils in Years 7 and 8 can access the comprehensive range of books and digital resources available from the Senior School Library, broadening their access to a wider range of titles and helping prepare them for the next stage of their Wycliffe journey.
Dear Rendcomb Families,
We are deeply saddened by the news that Rendcomb will close at the end of the academic year. Our thoughts are with all the pupils, families, staff and alumni of Rendcomb college at such a difficult time.
We are honoured to have been invited to work in partnership with Rendcomb in supporting families and pupils as you consider your next steps. We understand the care, sensitivity, clarity and respect you need during this transition and the Wycliffe community will work in collaboration and compassion with each individual family.
