Boarding is available for both boys and girls across a number of Boarding Houses. Our Prep School offers two Boarding Houses: Pennwood, the boys’ House with 35 boys, and Windrush, the girls’ House with 30 girls. Our small Houses offer a sense of community and belonging for our Boarders.

In the Senior School, there are three boys’ Houses: Ward’s House, Robinson House and Haywardsfield; and three girls’ Houses: Ivy Grove, Lampeter and Haywardsend. Loosley Halls is our Sixth Form House for boys and girls in Years 12 and 13, and Collingwood is our co-educational House for Day Pupils. Each House in the Senior School has its own personality and spirit.

Boarding School FAQs

What makes boarding at Wycliffe special?

Boarding at Wycliffe is about so much more than just living at school. It’s a vibrant, supportive, inclusive and kind community where pupils develop independence, lifelong friendships and a real sense of belonging. With pupils from all over the world, every day is an opportunity to learn, grow and discover new perspectives.

Who looks after boarders?

Your child’s wellbeing is our top priority. Each boarding house is led by a dedicated Housemaster or Housemistress, supported by a team of tutors and matrons who are always on hand. Our staff live on site, creating a true home-from-home and ensuring there is always someone to turn to day or night.

What are the boarding houses and rooms like?

Our boarding houses are warm, welcoming and full of character. Each House is slightly different but they all run on the same principles and values, Younger students usually share rooms, helping them settle in and make friends quickly. As pupils move up the school, they enjoy more privacy, with many Sixth Formers having their own rooms.

What should I pack for boarding?

We want every boarder to feel comfortable and at home. Essential items for packing include clothes for all seasons, toiletries, chargers, and personal touches like photos or posters. Duvet covers will be provided but you are very welcome to bring your own. We provide a full packing checklist to make sure nothing is forgotten.

What happens at weekends?

Weekends at Wycliffe are packed with activities, trips, and time to relax with friends. From brunch, themed events and sports fixtures to movie nights and outings, there’s always something going on. Older boarders also have the freedom to visit local towns.

Will my child share a room?

Most younger boarders share with one or two others, making it easy to build friendships. As pupils progress through the school, they move towards single rooms, especially in the Sixth Form.

How can we prepare for boarding?

Starting boarding is a big step, but we’re here to help every step of the way. We offer induction days, buddy systems and lots of support to help new boarders settle in quickly and confidently. For some starting with occasional boarding or flexi-boarding creates a smooth step to full boarding.
