Christian was appointed as the eleventh Headmaster of Wycliffe College by the Council of Trustees and began his tenure in September 2024. After grammar school, he attended Oxford University where he read Geography at Hertford College. After graduation, he spent two years working in the City of London for Weber Shandwick in Financial Public Relations. A change of career beckoned and he joined the British Army, completing Officer Training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst where he was awarded the prestigious Sword of Honour as best cadet of his intake. Thereafter, he served as an infantry officer for nearly 6 years in the Royal Green Jackets and The Rifles, completing operational tours in Iraq and Kosovo and spending time in Africa and Central America. He was ‘Mentioned in Dispatches’ for gallantry in Basra, Iraq in 2007.
A different type of service then came with a switch to education and teaching in late 2010. Christian came to Wycliffe from Giggleswick School in North Yorkshire, where he served as Senior Deputy Head for three years. Prior to that he spent 11 years at Radley College, taking his PGCE in-post, and holding a number of roles from Geography teacher, 1st XI football coach, 2nd XI cricket coach, Head of the Extended Project Qualification and CCF Army Section Commander. He was latterly, for 5 years, the Tutor (Housemaster) of F Social, home to around 70 boys aged 13 to 18.
In between being a father, running, cycling, keeping fit and climbing hills, he enjoys reading all manner of literature and is currently two years into learning to play the trumpet…and is grateful to his family for being so understanding.
He and his wife Rosie, an English teacher and writer, have three children, all of whom attend Wycliffe College Prep and who are thoroughly enjoying life in Stroud and the Five Valleys.
