Welcome to the Nursery Class at Wycliffe Prep School. We provide a nurturing and caring environment where your child can flourish as they take their first steps in their educational journey. Our Nursery is designed to inspire curiosity, foster independence and build confidence, ensuring that each child feels safe, happy and valued. With a blend of engaging indoor and outdoor activities, our young learners explore both the classroom and our beautiful school grounds, utilising Wycliffe’s extensive facilities to spark curiosity and foster hands-on discovery. We gently prepare our young children for their transition into their first year of School, believing that a warm, supportive atmosphere is the foundation for a lifetime of joyful learning.
Mrs Talbot, Nursery Teacher
In the key development years, from Nursery to Year 2, we offer the best in care and exceptional educational provision with first-class facilities and small classes taught by specialist Early Years Teachers. Music, French, PE, swimming, Forest School and daily outdoor learning is encouraged come rain or shine. Children learn a broad range of subjects to ensure they develop a well-rounded educational foundation to best prepare them as they transition to Reception.
In the Nursery Class, children cover a new topic each term through art, play, music discussion, exploration and child-led activities. They are introduced to number concepts, shapes, sequencing, phonics, pre-reading and writing skills, scientific thinking and basic motor skills through the Early Years Curriculum.
By having access to the extensive facilities on the Prep School campus, we aim to develop the children’s character and abilities by providing them the opportunity to try new activities.
The Nursery Class is in the same building as the Reception Class – with the Early Years Foundation Stage Lead overseeing both groups. When children leave the Nursery Class to start Reception, the transition is completely natural and worry-free – they know the teachers, their teaching and social areas, and have friends in the Reception Class already. In Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, we set down the foundations for education whilst developing inquisitive and creative thinkers in our pupils.
Starting a new school is not always easy for a child, but Wycliffe went above and beyond to make our son feel welcome. We couldn’t be happier with the level of kindness and dedication shown to him by the teaching staff. Really impressed.
