Wycliffe College is today celebrating the achievements of its Year 11 pupils, with more than a quarter of GCSE grades at 9 to 7 and 14% of grades at 8 or 9, an increase on last year’s figure. Overall, almost 9 out of 10 grades were at 9 to 4, well above the national average of 67.4%.

As an all-through school from Nursery to Sixth Form, almost 40% of those pupils achieving grades 7-9 have been at Wycliffe since their primary years in the Prep School, while 70% of those receiving top grades will stay on to study A Levels, BTECs or CTEC in the Sixth Form.

82% of pupils gained five or more GCSEs at grades 9-4, above the national average and the College is celebrating many individual successes, with a number of pupils exceeding expectations and securing a good number of top grades.

Mr Christian San-José, Headmaster of Wycliffe College, said: “This year’s GCSE results are testament to the hard work and resilience of our pupils and the commitment and support from our brilliant teaching staff.

“As ever, behind the headline metrics, there are a number of individual successes that we are celebrating as a community. I am pleased that a high proportion of pupils who have progressed from our Prep School from Year 7 and below have gone on to achieve high grades, demonstrating the value that is added as they move through the school.

“There are two aspects that are particularly encouraging about this year’s results: the increase in percentage of grades 9-8 from last year and the well-above baseline performance of pupils in the 9-7 grade bracket. This demonstrates our ability to stretch our pupils and support them to achieve the very best grades possible.

“Many of this year’s cohort will be returning in around a week’s time to embark on their Sixth Form journey with us. Choosing the right mix of subjects and qualifications from A Levels, BTECs, CTECs and our newly launched enrichment programme, is a very exciting moment in their young lives and I cannot wait to see them continue to develop as curious and critically thinking individuals, leaders and role models over the coming two years.”

Mrs Sarah Collinson, Head of Lower School, added: “I am delighted to celebrate the GCSE results achieved by our Year 11 pupils, as well as to recognise the determination and perseverance behind many individual successes.

“It is especially pleasing to see so many choosing to continue their studies with us in the Sixth Form, where they will benefit from our broad range of courses, specialist teaching, and exceptional pastoral care. I look forward to supporting them as they take the next steps in their academic and personal journey here at Wycliffe.”
