At Wycliffe College, we believe that education is about more than academic achievement, it is about developing the confidence, character, and skills to thrive in every aspect of life. That is why we are proud to offer WYLD (Wycliffe Leadership and Discovery), a dynamic Year 9 programme designed to unlock leadership potential and prepare pupils for life beyond the classroom.

Through WYLD, pupils embark on a bold adventure of personal growth, hands-on experiences, and expert guidance. Whether they choose to pursue the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award (DoE), join the Combined Cadet Force (CCF), or simply take part in WYLD’s core activities, every pupil will develop a powerful set of ‘soft skills’, from teamwork and communication to self-discipline, responsibility, and leadership.

Key skills developed through WYLD include:

  • Campcraft
  • Map reading
  • Communication skills
  • First aid
  • Confidence and self-awareness
  • Self-discipline and responsibility
  • Teamwork and leadership

By embedding WYLD into the Year 9 curriculum, we make it easy for pupils to complete their Bronze DoE and set the foundation for Silver in later years. With dedicated time in the school week and support from experienced staff, WYLD is a true game-changer for personal development at Wycliffe.

Our Year 9 pupils are the pioneers of WYL and set the standard for discovering what it means to lead, grow, and explore.
