For existing and prospective parents | September 2027 entry

At Wycliffe College, we believe in recognising and encouraging talent, ambition and potential. Our Scholarship Programme celebrates pupils who demonstrate particular strengths and commitment in their chosen areas, while providing opportunities to develop those talents further.

We understand that families may have questions about how the programme works, what is involved in applying and the financial support available. We hope the following information will help.

1. What scholarships are available?

Wycliffe offers scholarships across a range of disciplines, including:

  • Academic
  • Art
  • Drama
  • Music
  • Sport

Scholarships are available at key entry points, including 11+ (Year 7), 13+ (Year 9) and 16+ (Sixth Form). The categories and assessment requirements may vary according to the entry point.

2. Who can apply for a scholarship?

Both existing Wycliffe pupils and children currently attending other schools are welcome to apply. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of ability, achievement, and potential in the relevant discipline. We encourage applications from pupils who demonstrate genuine enthusiasm and commitment to their chosen area.

3. How do I apply for a scholarship?

The application process is straightforward:

  1. Submit your application: Complete the Scholarship Application Form, indicating which scholarship category or categories your child wishes to be considered for. This also serves as your expression of interest.
  2. Provide supporting documentation: Submit any additional information required for the relevant scholarship categories by the published deadline.
  3. Attend the assessments: Your child will be invited to participate in the relevant assessments during Scholarship Week.
  4. Receive a decision: Following the assessments, the College will review applications and communicate the outcomes to families.
4. What is the difference between an expression of interest and a scholarship application?

There is no difference for the purposes of our application process. Completing and submitting the Scholarship Application Form is also your expression of interest. You do not need to submit a separate form or letter. If you have already submitted your scholarship application, no further action is required at this stage other than providing any supporting documentation requested by the College.

5. What are the key dates for the November 2026 scholarship round?
Date Stage
Friday 23 October 2026 Scholarship application (expression of interest) deadline
Friday 30 October 2026 Supporting documentation deadline
W/C 9 November 2026 Scholarship assessments
Friday 20 November 2026 Target date for communicating decisions
Spring Term 2027 Second Year 7, Year 9 and Year 12 assessment round

We encourage families to submit applications and documentation as early as possible.

6. Can my child apply for more than one scholarship?

Yes. We welcome applications across multiple scholarship categories where a pupil demonstrates particular ability or potential. For example, a pupil may wish to apply for both Academic and Sports Scholarships, or Music and Drama Scholarships. Each application will be assessed against the relevant criteria.

7. If my child receives more than one scholarship, will the awards be added together?

Yes. Where a pupil is successful in more than one scholarship category, the awards are cumulative, subject to the College’s overall approach to scholarship funding.

As a general guide, combined awards would normally be capped at approximately:

  • 11+ (Year 7): 30% of school fees.
  • 13+ (Year 9): 50% of school fees.
  • 16+ (Sixth Form): 50% of school fees.

These are indicative limits rather than guaranteed entitlements. The College retains discretion over the final level of any award.

8. What is the typical value of a scholarship?

For pupils entering at 11+ and 13+, individual scholarship awards will typically range from 5% to 20% of school fees. The value of an award will depend on the strength of the application, performance during the assessments and the individual merits of the candidate.

For Sixth Form applicants, additional financial assistance may be available through the College’s means-tested bursary programme.

9. Are some scholarship categories worth more than others?

No. All scholarship categories are equally valued. Awards are determined by the individual pupil’s achievements and potential rather than the particular subject or discipline in which they apply.

10. What is involved in the scholarship assessments?

The assessments vary according to the scholarship category. For example, pupils may be asked to participate in academic assessments, interviews, practical activities, performances, auditions or sports assessments. The relevant scholarship brochure provides further information about the requirements for each category.

11. How should my child prepare for the assessments?

We encourage pupils to approach the assessments positively and to demonstrate their natural ability, enthusiasm and potential. Preparation will vary by scholarship category. Pupils may benefit from discussing their application with their current teachers, reviewing their recent achievements or practising relevant skills.

12. What supporting documentation is required?

The documentation required depends on the scholarship category. This may include examples of work, evidence of achievements, references or other relevant supporting information. Families should consult the scholarship brochure and application guidance or contact Admissions for clarification.

13. When are the scholarship assessments taking place?

For September 2027 entry, the first round of assessments will take place during the week commencing Monday 9 November 2026. A second assessment round for Year 7, Year 9 and Year 12 entry will take place during the Spring Term 2027.

Both assessment rounds follow the same process. The second round is primarily intended to accommodate later applicants. Existing and prospective pupils may participate in either round, although we encourage applications for the first round wherever possible.

14. When will we know whether our child has been successful?

Following the assessments, the College undertakes a thorough review of each candidate’s application and performance. For the November 2026 assessment round, we aim to communicate decisions to families by Friday 20 November 2026. Families will be informed of the outcome whether or not their child has been successful.

15. Is there a limited number of scholarships available?

There is no fixed number of scholarships awarded in each category. Each application is considered on its individual merits, and awards are made according to the ability, achievements and potential of the candidates. If a pupil declines an award, this does not necessarily mean that the scholarship will automatically be offered to another candidate.

16. How long does a scholarship last?

Scholarships are normally awarded for the relevant period of a pupil’s education at Wycliffe, subject to the conditions attached to the award. Scholars are expected to maintain appropriate standards of commitment, participation and conduct, and to make a positive contribution to College life.

17. What is expected of a Wycliffe Scholar?

Being a Wycliffe Scholar is about more than receiving a financial award. Scholars are expected to demonstrate enthusiasm, commitment and a willingness to contribute to their chosen discipline and the wider life of the College. This may include participating in relevant activities, representing the College and acting as a positive role model for other pupils.

18. Who should I contact if I have further questions?

Our Admissions Team will be pleased to help with questions about eligibility, applications, supporting documentation, assessments or scholarship awards.
