We are delighted to invite you to our Year 7 Open Morning taking place at our Prep School on Thursday 8th June from 9:30am.

You will tour the campus, including our purpose-built teaching block for Year 7 and 8 – Etheridge Hall and see the school in action.

Benefits of being in Prep School for Year 7 and 8

Pupils who stay on for Years 7 and 8 or who join us at this point, experience a rewarding two years as they increase in self-confidence, develop their intellectual maturity, cultivate leadership skills and take greater responsibility for their learning.

  • During the last two years at Prep school pupils have the opportunity to take on roles of responsibility such as Sports Team Captaincy, Prefects or Heads of School. In a larger Senior School, where Year 7 and 8’s are the youngest pupils in the school community there is less chance to take on these roles.
  • The nurturing Prep environment and smaller class sizes help build children’s confidence, so that when they join the Senior School in Year 9, they feel more self-assured and are ready for the move.
  • Being the top year in a school encourages maturity and independence. Year 8’s are expected to accompany visitors on school tours and make conversation with them, whilst being role models for their younger peers.
  • Years 7 and 8 offers the chance for children to grow up more gently and become an adolescent in familiar, safe and trusted environment without being involved in the social and academic world of young adults and the pressures of exams.
  • Our Value Added educational programme in drama, music, art and activity clubs combined with our fantastic facilities, sporting amenities and countryside campus ensures that pupils can take leading roles in plays, choirs, teams if they desire and have the opportunities to discover new activities that makes them happy.
  • Wycliffe Senior School teachers work alongside their Prep counterparts to ensure that the transition from Year 8 to Year 9 is smooth as pupils learn a curriculum that seamlessly runs into Year 9.
  • We tailor our teaching to individuals ensuring those that need additional help receive it to work at the best of their ability, to preparing gifted children for Scholarship assessment
  • The size and structure of our Year 7 and 8 classes ensure that all pupils in these year groups are able to attend school trips. Pupils benefit from the learning outside the classroom and the socialisation aspects that these bring. In larger Senior School due to sheer number of classes, not all children are able to go on trips.
  • At Wycliffe specifically, opportunities such as the Kirby Challenge and events through Round Square provide personal and academic achievement.
